The white-rumped shama is a passerine bird in the Old World flycatcher family Muscicapidae. Native to densely vegetated habitats in the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia.

White-rumped Shama (Copsychus malabaricus) is a striking forest songbird renowned for its rich, melodious voice and elegant long tail. Found across Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, and much of Southeast Asia, it inhabits dense forests, bamboo thickets, woodland edges, and shaded gardens. Males display glossy black plumage with a chestnut belly and distinctive white rump, while females are duller in color. This insectivorous bird feeds mainly on insects, spiders, and small invertebrates. The White-rumped Shama is classified as Least Concern by the IUCN, although habitat loss and illegal trapping threaten some local populations.
